Colossal Biosciences’ de-extinction project is yielding dire wolves that are not only alive again but thriving—and already bigger than their modern grey wolf cousins. The young dire wolves—Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi—are now over 115 pounds at just ten months of age, while adult grey wolves in places like Yellowstone usually reach 100–105 pounds. The organization, co-founded by Ben Lamm, is continuing to refine its work on the dire wolf genome, assessing whether additional genetic elements should be included in future individuals. They also plan to produce more dire wolves, keeping careful eye on age classes and social integration within the pack. As they expand their efforts, Colossal is poised to open its Dallas headquarters in October.
